Mathematics is one of our most popular subjects, especially at A Level, with a 100% pass rate year on year and consistently high results.

Taught by highly experienced staff, in small classes, students are guided to master all aspects of the curriculum.  They leave school with a firm grasp of the subject and its importance in the world.

Courses

All students follow the international IGCSE course. Those with an aptitude can be fast-tracked for early examination and Additional Mathematics in Year 11. This has proved an excellent bridge for those wishing to study mathematics at A level.

Extra revision classes are available for GCSE students, and there is always additional support available, including an online study aid.

Mathematics in the Sixth Form incorporates the applied modules of Statistics, Mechanics and Decision. Students have the option of an AS in Further Mathematics or a full Double Mathematics A-level.

Enrichment

Mathematics enrichment takes place throughout the school, with fun chess clubs, maths challenge competitions at Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.  Our most able young mathematicians have opportunities to participate in masterclasses at Swansea University.

Higher Education & Careers

With a wide variety of university courses and professions requiring the unique skills set that mathematics provides, there is no shortage of stimulating, rewarding and satisfying careers for our students. Many have gone on to pursue successful careers in science, engineering, banking and finance, all partly due to the rigour, discipline and enjoyment of studying mathematics at Ffynone.
