Ffynone House School Mathematics lessonMathematics is one of our most popular subjects, especially at A Level, with a 100% pass rate year on year and consistently high results.

Taught by highly experienced staff, in small, friendly classes, students are given plenty of support to master all aspects of the curriculum.  They leave school with a firm grasp of the subject and an enthusiasm to learn more.


IGCSE mathematics examination success at Ffynone House SchoolAll students follow the international IGCSE course. Those with an aptitude can be fast-tracked for early examination and Additional Mathematics in Year 11. This has proved an excellent bridge for those wishing to study mathematics at A level.

Extra revision classes are available for GCSE students, and there is always additional support available, including an online study aid.

Mathematics in the Sixth Form incorporates all the applied modules of Statistics, Mechanics and Decision. Students have the option of an AS in Further Mathematics or a full Double Mathematics A-level.


Mathematics enrichment takes place throughout the school, with fun puzzle and chess clubs, maths challenge competitions at Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.  Our ablest young mathematicians have opportunities to participate in masterclasses at Swansea University.

Higher Education & Careers

With a wide variety of University courses and professions requiring the unique skills set that mathematics provides, there is no shortage of stimulating, rewarding and satisfying careers for our students. Many have gone on to pursue successful careers in science, engineering, banking and finance, all partly due to the rigour, discipline and enjoyment of studying mathematics at Ffynone.

UK Mathematics Challenge winnersSome of our top young mathematicians successfully represented Ffynone House in the UK Mathematics Trust Intermediate Challenge national competition. Performed under examination conditions, the challenge is open to pupils in Year 11 or below throughout England and Wales, and is designed to encourage participation in maths.
