A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Ffynone House has been infiltrated by mischievous fairy-folk this week.  The hall stage was transformed into an enchanted forest; home to imps, bewildered lovers and amateur thespians.

Our ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ was truly a triumph. All the young actors showed impressive control of the verse and there were plenty of laughs throughout.  The Mechanicals took to the stage with glee, clearly enjoying their comic roles.  The royal court was suitably authoritative and the lovers quick to temper.

The set was all green hues with camouflage netting and foliage aplenty.  Simple levels gave the forest depth and ethereal music was piped throughout to sustain the mysterious atmosphere.  Our Art students created beautiful glitter make-up for the fairies, adding that extra sparkle under the stage-lights.

It is with no little sadness that we sweep away the glitter and send Puck back the forest.  What a pleasure it was to see such a young cast, all under the age of 15, understanding, enjoying and thoroughly entertaining us with some Shakespeare.  In this production, the spirits most definitely did not ‘offend.’
