Studying Mathematics in Ffynone
Mathematics at Ffynone House School in Swansea
Our Mathematics Department provides courses that are designed to meet the needs and abilities of every pupil with a variety of options for students in key stage 3, the GCSE years of key stage 4 and the Sixth Form.
The average class size for Mathematics is around 12 pupils, which naturally enables very close attention to be paid to individual needs. Such needs may include providing extra support for those who are ‘afraid of maths’ or challenging talented students to deepen their understanding and accelerate the pace of learning, perhaps taking GCSE a year early. There is an option to take a free standing qualification in Additional Maths FSMQ (post GCSE) in year 11 and an extra-curricular course in GCSE Statistics is open to all students in years 9, 10 and 11.
Frequent successes in the popular UK Maths Challenge competitions are commonplace at Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels with many students receiving Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. These mirror the success achieved in our external examination results atGCSE,AS and A-level which are unsurpassed in the local area.
