 Why study Business Studies at GCSE level?

The Business Studies course in Ffynone House School is interesting and relevant.  We study the WJEC syllabus which means that the examination questions are set in a real and relevant business environment. 

The course examines business decisions, and gives insightful information into how businesses operate.  The exam at the end of year 11 is worth 75%.  There is also an assignment under controlled conditions which is worth 25%

The following units are examined:

The Business Environment: this is an introduction to business studies.

  •  Marketing: this is where market research and the marketing mix is examined.
  •  Accounting and Finance: sources of finance and financial statements are examined.
  •  People in Organisations: examining human resource planning, motivation and industrial relations.
  •  Production: focusing on production, quality and the effect of new technology.

No previous knowledge of Business Studies is needed, the small groups and specialist teaching allows you to progress straight to AS level without feeling left behind or lost, particularly as the lessons can be tailor made to suit the needs of the group.

This is an introduction to business objectives.  The impact on business of external influences.  The European Union and Economics.

Marketing

This is where market research and the marketing mix is examined.

Accounting and Finance

Operations Management

Focusing on production, quality and the effect of new technology.
