School tennis team reaches last 16 of national tennis tournament

Our tennis team are celebrating after their tennis team reached the last 16 of the national school finals. The quartet of Elinor, Tegan, Amy and Elysia pulled off a fantastic 4-2 win over Cheltenham Ladies College in the last round.  This fantastic achievement earned them a regional final against Millfield School. Their journey to the last 16 the Ffynone team included wins against Bishopston, Crickhowell, Cardiff and St Clears.

“The girls are a real credit to the school,” said Steve Gullick, Ffynone School deputy headteacher. “I must admit I was worried when we went to Cheltenham because they have a much bigger pool of players and outstanding facilities. They also had two Year 11 and two Year 10 players in their side compared with our one Year 11, one Year 10 and two Year 8. Cheltenham were physically bigger but our girls refused to be in awe of them and it was wonderful to see them come away winners. I was also very impressed with the high level of sportsmanship on both teams.”
