S.M.A.R.T is a thematic course offering a detailed and contemporary approach to some of the central questions and issues in human life and experience.  The promotion of community cohesion is at the heart of the course.  Its broad aspect aims to challenge and inspire students whilst helping them to lead constructive lives in the modern world.

Content

The course aims to cover material previously presented as two separate subjects (PHSE and PS)

Typical topics covered by the course:

Equality, Human Rights and Dignity, Prejudice, the Media, Religion in a Secular Society, Responses to God, Care for the World, Animal Rights, Peace, Conflict and War, Medical Ethics, Religious Expression.

Delivery

Years 7 – 9 will study S.M.A.R.T for two fifty minute periods per week.

Qualifications

S.M.A.R.T will lead up to a Full Course WJEC qualification in Religious Studies by the end of Year 10.  (The first module being sat at the end of Y9 and the second at the end of Y10.)  This will mean that ALL students will potentially gain a half GCSE at the end of Year 9.
