Vintage Coffee Morning Success!
Staff, pupils and parents from Ffynone House School in Swansea raised over £550 for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last Friday (24th September). The event, which was held in St James’ Church Hall in Uplands attracted over 60 people who enjoyed tea, coffee and cakes donated by parents and pupils from the School.
The event had a vintage theme. Pupils dressed in vintage costumes served beverages to customers on vintage tea sets donated for the event by Fancy Cakes Stands. Cakes were served on cake stands ‘up-cycled’ from old crockery which have been created by one of the Art TeachersStaff, pupils and parents from Ffynone House School in Swansea raised over £550 for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last Friday (24th September). Pupils dressed the hall in bunting they made during art classes from recycled fabrics. Music came from a vintage record player playing some of the great big band and swing music of the 1940’s.
The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's biggest fundraising event. Last year 43,000 people registered to hold a coffee morning, raising £7.9 million across the UK. This year the charity is hoping to raise over £8million to help change the lives of people affected by cancer. The event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning where people came along to meet and mingle The first National World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £60 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Event organizer Rebecca Harvey was very happy with the turnout, “It was a fantastic event. Our pupils worked together and did a fabulous job and it was great to see people from the local community coming along and enjoying being part of the morning too”.
Head Teacher at Ffynone House School, Nicola Walker, commented, “Congratulations to everyone involved for creating such an enjoyable event and raising so much money for charity”.
