3rd in UK - Ffynone Chemistry Champs!

Ffynone Chemistry Champs are third in Britain.

Pupils from Ffynone House School in Swansea were celebrating again this week as they won third place overall in the UK ‘Top of the Bench’ Chemical Olympiad competition.

The team were competing in the competition at Loughborough University after being announced runaway winners of the South West Wales Chemistry Olympiad Competition earlier this year.

The pupils, Carys Whittet, David Eves, Rosie McNiff and Holly Dickens, had to complete a knowledge based test in the morning followed by a practical exercise in the afternoon designed to test their problem solving skills. The Ffynone team was awarded 3rd place out of the 24 teams in attendance.

The pupils were also treated to a lecture on ‘Life, The Universe and Everything’ by Professor Stephen Fletcher, Professor of Physical Chemistry at Loughborough University.

Head of Ffynone House School, Nicola Walker, commented, “We are delighted with this result – it demonstrated the hard work and commitment put into sciences here at Ffynone House School and the hard work the pupils put into preparing for this competition. To win the South West Wales competition and then to go on to come third in the UK overall is a massive achievement and I would like to congratulate the team on their skill and hard work”.
