Ffynone House Sixth Form Army Day

Students from our sixth form all had a tremendous time at Margam Park last week on their annual ‘Army Day’.  This is actually a one-day personal development course run by members of the Royal Regiment of Wales to encourage teamwork and good communication, the vitally important transferable skills that are particularly relevant in the modern world.

It was a particularly thought provoking event this year, not least because the activities took place on Remembrance Day, Friday 11 November.  A very respectful two minutes silence was observed alongside serving members of the Armed Forces, while they remembered their own ‘absent friends’.  It was sobering to realise that our own sixth formers are only a few years younger than many currently on duty in Afghanistan.

Nevertheless, many tasks were attempted (not all successfully) building bridges, crossing minefields, transferring stores and all done with the usual good humour, spurred on with the occasional shouts, screams and press-ups!

Despite the wind and rain good fun was had by all and we look forward to many more such events in the future.
