My Ffynone by Amelia Kidwell (Pupil Mentor 2010-11)

I’ve been in Ffynone since Year 7 and I went to Oakleigh House School before that. I remember being in Year 7 – it felt very new and grown up to be in a new environment. I found it difficult choosing my friends and felt pressure to be ‘cool’. There was one sixth former who helped me a lot but I found most of them terrifying though – I’d like to think I’m more approachable than they were!

I’ve done a few form assemblies. One of them involved me dressing up as a superhero called ‘sickle cell Amelia’! I think its nice that everyone gets a chance to express themselves like that in front of the school and make people laugh – we all get to know each other by doing that.

I’ve been on four ski trips since year 7 and they are great fun. It’s a chance for year groups to integrate and have a laugh together. I helped to organise and run the ‘Mr X Factor’ charity concert and mentored the Year 7 boys who were very impressive with their guitar items.

I’m currently studying Chemistry, French, Biology and Art. When I leave Ffynone I’d like to go to Art College in London but I might take a gap year to do voluntary work before that.
