Do you want to know more about studying English at Ffynone House School?

In our English lessons we really want to encourage pupils to find fascination and excitement within the pages of our chosen class novels so that the habit of reading becomes an addictive one. If you join our school you will be inspired and challenged to explore plot, characterisation and the ways authors use language as well as to analyse magazines, newspapers and the persuasive techniques of advertising.

You may find yourself on your feet in roleplay, in quiet corners writing poetry or taking the lead in an animated discussion.

Your work will be displayed with pride in our classrooms, carefully selected for your coursework folder and entered in national writing competitions. You will be supported by caring, well qualified teachers as you prepare for your exams.

We aim to equip every pupil with the skills to engage in the cut and thrust of lively debate and the ability to use words imaginatively, creatively and accurately. Above all we want you to develop a love of language and a language for life.

"A house without books is like a room without windows". Heinrich Mann

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." Groucho Marx
