Chemical Olympiad

Pupils from Ffynone House School regularly participate in the South West Wales Chemistry Olympiad Competition. The competition involves a team of four pupils answering a selection of questions on Chemistry and chemical processes.

In the 2009-10 academic year, the team from Ffynone House School won the regional finals. The pupils battled through five ties to beat the other 31 schools who participated. The Ffynone team not only beat each of the schools that they faced throughout the contest, but consistently achieved the highest score in every round up to, and including, the final.

The semi-finals and finals were held in the Taliesin Arts Theatre in Swansea University.  After winning the semi finals against Olchfa Comprehensive School, the Ffynone Team put together a splendid performance against Bishop Vaughan to win the final.

The team then went on to represent Wales in the Royal Society of Chemistry ‘Top of the Bench’ competition at Loughborough University. After a hard fought contest the team from Ffynone were awarded third in the UK.
